We had a lovely weekend away. It was so nice to see new places and explore areas I don’t necessarily feel comfortable being in.
I’m talking about cliffs and caves. I did the caves, couldn’t quite face walking 274 steep steps to the top of the cliff, so my little boy and I politely turned back after reaching half way and sat at the bottom for the others to come back. (In hindsight I wish I’d completed it now, apparently I was over half way when I’d decided to turn back….grrr).
It was these very cliffs that made me begin to focus on the glory and majesty of God.
The cliff faces are really steep and perilous. They consist of an array of narrow ledges and incredibly rocky terrains, yet amongst all the apparent treacherousness exists the mountain goats.
I was captivated.
I didn’t spot them at first, then my children noticed them tucked away amongst the rocks and boulders chomping away on the grass without a care in the world. As I looked up I was amazed at how they were able to move so freely within such uncomfortable looking spaces.
From where I was standing the rocks looked so sharp and unwelcoming, the drops were so sheer and the ledges so narrow, yet still God’s creation was able to exist peaceably within this seemingly hostile setting.
I began to think about The Lord and His word and how He promise to give us a firm footing on the solid rock of Jesus Christ. He is a way maker and a protector and it doesn’t matter what our surroundings may look like, He will allow us to flourish in what appears to be a barren and broken place when we put our trust in Him.
I’m telling you these goats were behaving as though they were in the garden of Eden. They didn’t slip or stumble, despite the adverse conditions. They were safe and secure. Just as I am.
I am so thankful that The Lord allowed me to see what He sees. He has answered my prayers! Hallelujah! To be able to witness with my own eyes how the Mountain goat thrives and stands so confidently and securely in what only can be described as a dangerous environment reaffirmed to me the true power of our God. Absolutely nothing our limited minds can fathom is too hard for Him. He is The Mighty Lord of Hosts! He is Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end! Glory to His matchless name!
It doesn’t matter how barren or how unstable our circumstances may look beloved’s , our God is with us, guiding us, protecting us, loving us, upholding us…..
…and I am in awe of Him all over again!
‘It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.
Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.’
